Dear San Mateo,
It has been my greatest honor to serve in elected office:
Protecting our public health, safety, and economic vibrancy.
Investing in affordable housing, sustainable transit and infrastructure.
Listening and co-creating a future that respects our history, diversity, and neighborhoods
Five years ago, a broad coalition craving a voice for change carried me to City Hall. We beat out money and special interests in the largest and most expensive election in our City’s history, and I was elected as the first Asian woman and Jew of Color to serve in San Mateo.
We passed generational tax reforms and made unprecedented investments in affordable housing and sustainable infrastructure. We carried San Mateo through the pandemic, saving jobs and lives – we were united with compassion protecting our small businesses and our most vulnerable.
With courageous voices, we challenged the status quo that normalizes harm and preserves inequity. We took hard hits that tested our resolve. We stood tall to protect abortion rights, strengthen democratic systems, and advance housing and environmental justice.
Reflecting on these five years, I can say without hesitation: I would do it all again. I have no regrets about the stands I’ve taken or the battles I’ve fought — thank you to our neighbors, our youth leaders, our City staff, and everyone who has been part of this journey and I am so grateful for the joy and fulfillment of living a life of purpose.
