Planning for Post-Pandemic Recovery & Growth

The declining rents in San Mateo, retail closures, and mass exodus out of the Bay Area raises questions about our economic future. This has led to far reaching speculation about "the real" need for housing and commercial office space in the Bay Area. Meanwhile our Regional Housing Need Allocations are expected to increase over 115% in the City and potentially 195% in the County.

I sat down with Adrienne Down Coulson, COO of Rakuten which is headquartered in San Mateo to hear her perspective on:

  • Future growth, demand for housing and her position against Measure Y

  • The reality and long-term sustainability of flexible, remote, and distributed work cultures

  • COVID-19 disproportionate impact on women in the workforce
