Sierra Club joins #TeamAmo
The Sierra Club is a legacy organization that has been fighting for conservation and environmental justice in California since 1892! They are highly selective about their endorsements and I am so grateful to be among them.
For years, I've been working with members of the Loma Prieta Chapter to support the Green Streets initiative. When I served on the Parks and Recreation Commission and General Plan Subcommittee, we successfully advanced many environmental policies including:
The discontinued use of RoundUp for park maintenance.
Planting native, drought-resistant and pollinator-friendly landscaping in our park redesigns.
Focusing City tree-planting in North Central, which has historically been under-resourced.
Preserving heritage trees and natural green space in the King Center park redesign.
Expanding community garden program and policy updates to encourage more equitable access.
Promoting edible gardening to address food insecurity on school campuses, including the San Mateo Adult School and SMFCSD schools.
This month, our council unanimously voted to update the building codes to require all electric for residential and office developments. I successfully advocated to remove the exemption for accessory dwelling units (ADU's) and supported the electric-preferred option for 100% affordable housing projects. I believe in science and feel the moral urgency to take unprecedented action to cut carbon emissions over these next 10 years, our future depends on it.
Measure RR Explained with Supervisor Pine
County Supervisor Dave Pine joined me for a conversation on Measure RR. Did you know that Caltrain is the 7th largest public transit system in the country and the only one in the Bay Area without a dedicated source of funding?
Caltrain's survival and growth is essential to our economic recovery and environmental sustainability. Please join the Sierra Club in voting Yes on Measure RR!
