You might have heard sensationalized news about the drop in CO2 emissions during the COVID-19 pandemic. The notion that this is a “silver-lining” is dangerous and misleading because a) any “gains” are temporary, and b) they come from profound tragedy and suffering. The task at hand is to build anew. One of my heroes, Francia Márquez, asks us, “When will we stand up and create an economy of life instead of allowing an economy of death to destroy our earth and people?”
Tonight our Council will consider adoption of two critical initiatives - the Bicycle Master Plan and the Climate Action Plan. Both plans offer a vision and roadmap for systemic change that will take us forward into a cleaner, greener, and more healthy future. I invite you to watch our Council meeting tonight at 7PM and submit public comments through Speak Up San Mateo.
